First seen Feb 23, 2026 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study tests whether two dietary supplements, HMB and 2-HOBA, can improve muscle mass, physical function, and overall health in adults aged 65 and older. Over 90 days, 120 participants will take one or both supplements or a placebo. Researchers will measure changes in muscle, fitness, and blood markers to see if these supplements support healthier aging.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Beta-Hydroxy-Beta-methylbutyrate (HMB) and 2-hydroxybenzylamine (2-HOBA) dietary supplements

What this could lead to

If successful, these supplements could help older adults maintain muscle strength and physical function, potentially supporting healthier aging.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage trial with only 120 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Supplements may not show significant benefits over placebo.
