Can a leukemia drug flush out HIV's last hiding spots?

NCT ID NCT07481175

First seen Mar 23, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This early-stage study tests whether adding the drug venetoclax to standard HIV treatment can help kill cells that harbor dormant HIV. The goal is to shrink the hidden virus reservoir, which is the main barrier to a cure. About 38 adults newly starting HIV therapy will receive venetoclax or standard care, and researchers will monitor safety and changes in the size of the HIV reservoir.
