Twice-Yearly shot could revolutionize HIV prevention for young women
NCT ID NCT04994509
First seen Apr 07, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study tested two ways to prevent HIV in over 5,000 adolescent girls and young women at risk of infection. One group received a twice-yearly injection of lenacapavir, while another took a daily pill (emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide). The goal was to see how well each method works compared to the expected infection rate in the community. Results will show if the long-acting shot is a safe and effective option for HIV prevention.
