Monthly HIV prevention pill put to the test – but study halted early

NCT ID NCT04652700

First seen May 17, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tested a once-monthly pill called islatravir to prevent HIV infection in cisgender men and transgender women who have sex with men and are at high risk. About 494 participants took either the monthly pill or an active comparator. The trial was terminated early, but researchers still looked at safety and how many people got HIV during the study.
