Extra nerve block may ease hip surgery pain and cut opioid use

NCT ID NCT06839742

First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study looked at whether adding an extra nerve block (deep posterior gluteal compartment block) to a standard hip block can improve pain control and reduce opioid use in adults undergoing hip fracture surgery. Sixty-eight patients were randomly assigned to receive either the standard block alone or the standard block plus the extra block. The main goal was to measure how much morphine patients needed after surgery and their pain scores during rest and movement.
