Healthy volunteers get IV fluids to reveal liver's hidden blood flow secrets

NCT ID NCT03589261

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 12, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study looked at how the liver's blood supply changes when healthy people receive extra fluids through an IV. Researchers used MRI to measure blood flow in the liver's main vessels before and after giving 500 ml of saline. The goal was to understand the liver's natural 'buffer response' — not to treat any disease. 22 healthy volunteers participated.
