Dialysis breakthrough: safer blood thinner found for Bleeding-Risk patients
NCT ID NCT03562754
First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This study tested two ways to prevent blood clots during dialysis in 60 patients at high risk of bleeding. One method uses a special filter (citrate) that only works in the dialysis machine, while the other uses a low dose of a standard blood thinner (heparin) throughout the body. The goal was to see which approach allows for longer, more effective dialysis sessions with fewer bleeding complications.
