Simple mouth exercises may help preemies eat sooner and go home earlier

NCT ID NCT07460089

First seen Mar 17, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study tests whether a special mouth exercise program or pacifier use helps premature babies learn to feed by mouth faster than standard care. About 150 preterm infants born between 26 and 32 weeks will be randomly assigned to one of three groups. Researchers will track how quickly each baby achieves full oral feeding, weight gain, and hospital stay length. The goal is to find simple ways to improve feeding skills and reduce time in the hospital.
