Heart scans in liver patients: specialist vs. generalist – who does it better?
NCT ID NCT03650660
First seen Dec 29, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 27 times
Summary
This study looked at whether a gastroenterologist (a liver doctor) with basic training can perform heart ultrasounds as accurately as an intensive care expert in patients with severe cirrhosis and fluid buildup. The goal was to see if non-specialists could reliably assess heart function in these patients. The study was terminated early, so results are limited.
