Heart MRI may outshine standard test to predict sudden death

NCT ID NCT01076660

First seen Jan 25, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study looks at whether detailed heart scans (MRI) can better predict who is at risk for sudden cardiac death compared to the usual method of measuring heart pumping strength. Researchers will follow 400 people with weak hearts who are getting a defibrillator (ICD) to see if certain heart structure features are linked to dangerous heart rhythms. The goal is to improve how we identify those who truly need an ICD.
