Drug trial aims to ease patients off Life-Support machines

NCT ID NCT04158674

Summary

This study tested whether a drug called levosimendan could help patients with severe, sudden heart failure safely stop using a temporary heart-lung machine (ECLS). The drug is designed to strengthen the heart's pumping ability. Researchers compared the drug to a placebo in 82 hospitalized adults to see if it reduced the chance of failing to come off the machine support.
