Cancer-Detecting pen aims to transform nerve tumor surgery

NCT ID NCT07298083

Summary

This study is testing a handheld pen-like device that analyzes tissue during surgery to see if it can quickly and accurately tell the difference between cancerous nerve tumors (MPNST), non-cancerous nerve tumors (neurofibroma), and healthy tissue. The goal is to help surgeons remove tumors more completely while sparing healthy nerves. About 60 people with these nerve tumors who are already scheduled for surgery will participate.
