Scientists hunt for hidden gut enzymes that unlock plant power
NCT ID NCT07589166
First seen May 17, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study collected stool samples from 40 healthy adults to search for genes in gut bacteria that can break down or modify terpenoids and carotenoids—compounds found in plants that affect color and health. Researchers used lab techniques to identify unique enzymes from each person's gut microbes. The goal was simply to discover and catalog these enzymes, not to test a treatment.
