Gut bugs may predict how well radiation works for head and neck cancer

NCT ID NCT07407218

First seen Mar 01, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study looked at whether the bacteria in your gut can influence how well radiotherapy works and how severe side effects are in people with head and neck cancer. Fifty-eight adults with advanced cancer provided stool and blood samples before and during treatment. Researchers analyzed the bacteria and chemicals in these samples to see if they could predict treatment response and side effects. The goal is to use this information to personalize care in the future.
