Diabetes drug gel tested for fighting gum disease
NCT ID NCT07215156
Summary
This study tests whether adding a special gel to standard deep cleaning works better for treating moderate gum disease. Researchers will compare a gel containing metformin (a diabetes medication) against a standard antibacterial chlorhexidine gel. Sixty adults with gum disease will receive either deep cleaning alone, deep cleaning plus metformin gel, or deep cleaning plus chlorhexidine gel, and be followed for six months to see which approach improves gum health most.
