Mind over matter: guided imagery may ease joint surgery recovery

NCT ID NCT07194252

First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study tests whether guided imagery—a relaxation technique using mental images—can lower anxiety before surgery and reduce pain and painkiller use after total joint replacement. About 128 adults having hip or knee replacement will be randomly assigned to receive guided imagery or standard care. Researchers will measure anxiety levels, pain scores, and how much pain medication patients need.
