Special goat milk could protect cancer patients after transplant

NCT ID NCT04177004

Summary

This early-stage study is testing whether drinking milk from genetically engineered goats can help prevent a dangerous complication called graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in blood cancer patients receiving a donor stem cell transplant. The milk contains a human enzyme called lysozyme, which may help promote healthy gut bacteria and reduce harmful infections. Researchers will compare patients who drink the special milk with those who receive standard care to see if it's safe and if it reduces transplant complications.
