Could a stomach hormone make you want to work harder?
NCT ID NCT05318924
First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 19 times
Summary
This study looked at how ghrelin, a hormone made in the stomach that makes you feel hungry, affects the brain's reward system and motivation. Researchers gave ghrelin or a saltwater placebo to 26 healthy volunteers and people with depression, then used brain scans and effort tasks to measure changes. The goal was to see if ghrelin boosts dopamine and the willingness to work for rewards, which could lead to new treatments for low motivation in depression.
