One-Time gene therapy aims to free patients from lifelong blood transfusions
NCT ID NCT06308159
Summary
This trial is testing a one-time gene therapy for people with severe beta-thalassemia who depend on regular blood transfusions. Doctors will collect a patient's own blood stem cells, use a modified virus to insert a healthy hemoglobin gene into them, and then return the cells to the patient. The goal is to see if this treatment is safe and can help the body produce enough healthy red blood cells to reduce or eliminate the need for future transfusions.
