Maintenance chemo may slow mesothelioma, but not extend life

NCT ID NCT07411144

First seen Feb 18, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study tested whether continuing gemcitabine chemotherapy after initial treatment can delay cancer progression in patients with diffuse pleural mesothelioma, a rare and aggressive lung lining cancer. 64 patients who responded to first-line chemotherapy were randomly assigned to receive gemcitabine or no further treatment. Results suggest gemcitabine may slow cancer growth but does not clearly extend overall survival, and side effects are common.
