Can a quick ultrasound prevent a rare but deadly complication in GLP-1 users?
NCT ID NCT06666049
First seen Apr 21, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 6 times
Summary
This study tests whether a bedside stomach ultrasound can help doctors decide how to manage breathing tubes during surgery for patients taking GLP-1 drugs (like Ozempic). These medications can slow stomach emptying, raising the risk of food or liquid entering the lungs during anesthesia. The goal is to see if ultrasound can identify those at higher risk, even after standard fasting.
