New hope for stubborn heartburn: experimental drug targets symptoms

NCT ID NCT06704100

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study tests whether a drug called Fosamprenavir-Sodium Alginate (FOS-SA) can reduce heartburn and regurgitation in people whose acid reflux doesn't improve with standard proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). About 60 adults aged 18-65 will take either FOS-SA or a placebo twice daily for 8 weeks and track their symptoms. The goal is to see if this new approach offers relief for hard-to-treat GERD.
