Softer foods may help care home residents eat more and faster

NCT ID NCT06832488

First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study looked at whether serving softer, easier-to-chew foods could help older adults in care homes eat more and eat faster. About 1 in 10 older adults in the UK are malnourished, and care home residents are especially at risk. The researchers compared days when meals were made with easy-to-eat textures versus days with harder-to-chew textures, measuring how much participants ate and how quickly. The goal was to find simple ways to improve food intake and overall health in this group.
