Placebo surgery showdown: is carpal tunnel release worth the knife?

NCT ID NCT06934187

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study will test if carpal tunnel release surgery is truly effective by comparing it to a placebo surgery where the incision is made but the nerve is not released. About 96 adults with carpal tunnel syndrome will be randomly assigned to real or placebo surgery, and neither they nor their doctors will know which they received. The goal is to see if the surgery provides real relief from pain and numbness beyond the natural course of the condition.
