First seen Apr 23, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study tests whether a flurbiprofen spray or ice cream can reduce throat pain and improve voice quality after thyroid removal. One hundred adults having thyroid surgery will receive either the spray, ice cream, or a placebo spray five hours after their operation. Researchers will then measure pain levels and voice quality to see which option works best.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

flurbiprofen spray and ice cream

What this could lead to

If effective, this could offer simple, low-cost options for managing post-thyroidectomy throat pain and voice issues.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase trial with only 100 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The interventions are tested only once at 5 hours after surgery, limiting conclusions.
