Smart fluids for seniors: can tailored IV drips prevent Post-Surgery brain fog?

NCT ID NCT07438249

First seen Mar 01, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study looked at 180 older adults (65+) having major cancer surgery on their abdomen. It compared two ways of giving fluids during the operation: a standard method versus a personalized approach using special monitors to guide fluid amounts. The goal was to see if the personalized method helped protect thinking and memory after surgery. The study found that the personalized fluid method was linked to better short-term brain function.
