Can a simple breathing maneuver tell surgeons how much fluid a patient needs?
NCT ID NCT04118244
First seen Jan 31, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 17 times
Summary
This study tested whether a lung recruitment maneuver (a temporary increase in airway pressure) can help doctors decide if a patient needs more fluids during surgery. The study included 48 adults having abdominal surgery with protective lung ventilation. The goal was to see if changes in pulse pressure and stroke volume during the maneuver could predict fluid responsiveness.
