Can a simple ultrasound improve fluid balance for kidney patients in the ICU?
NCT ID NCT07346118
First seen Jan 25, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 10 times
Summary
This study compares a new ultrasound-guided method (mVExUS) against standard care for managing fluid balance in critically ill adults with acute kidney injury who need continuous dialysis. About 126 ICU participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups, with fluid removal decisions made every 8 hours based on either the ultrasound results or usual assessments. The main goal is to see if the ultrasound approach leads to a better fluid balance over the first 72 hours and reduces complications like low blood pressure during dialysis.
