Ultrasound reveals hidden gum changes from braces retainers

NCT ID NCT07414264

First seen Feb 19, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study looked at 53 people who had braces and then got a fixed wire retainer behind their front teeth. Researchers used ultrasound to measure gum thickness and bone levels right after placement, then again at 3 and 6 months. The goal was to see if the retainer causes any changes in gum health over time.
