New study: could strengthening the back of your fingers boost climbing?

NCT ID NCT07414862

First seen Feb 24, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study looks at whether training the muscles that open your fingers (extensors) can improve climbing performance more than just training the muscles that grip (flexors). About 36 healthy adult climbers will follow a 6-week training program. Researchers will measure grip strength, endurance, and hand function to see which approach works better.
