Fermented foods may tame metabolic syndrome

NCT ID NCT06587958

First seen Mar 23, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study looked at whether eating fermented plant-based foods (like sauerkraut or kimchi) can reduce inflammation and improve blood sugar in people with metabolic syndrome. 89 adults with signs of metabolic syndrome tried three different diets: fermented plant-based, non-fermented plant-based, and their usual diet. The goal was to see if the fermented foods had extra benefits for heart and metabolic health.
