Tiny fentanyl doses may reveal hidden pain risk

NCT ID NCT00454259

First seen May 19, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026

Summary

This study looked at whether very small doses of fentanyl can help predict who will feel more pain after surgery. Researchers tested 48 healthy men, some who had surgery before and some who hadn't, by measuring their pain threshold after receiving ultra-low fentanyl doses. The goal was to see if this simple test could identify people at risk for severe post-operative pain.
