Cheap cholesterol pill may shield diabetic kidneys

NCT ID NCT04929379

Summary

This study is testing if fenofibrate, an inexpensive generic drug used to lower blood fats, can help prevent kidney damage in people with type 1 diabetes. It will enroll 40 adults with type 1 diabetes and early-to-moderate kidney disease to take either fenofibrate or a placebo for 18 months. The main goal is to see if the drug can slow the loss of kidney function and gather information to plan a larger future trial.
