Groundbreaking facial transplants give new hope to trauma survivors

NCT ID NCT05117190

First seen Apr 04, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study tested facial transplantation in 3 people with severe facial damage from accidents. The goal was to improve their quality of life and facial function. Participants received a donor face and were followed to see how well they recovered and adapted. Because lifelong anti-rejection medication is needed, this is a disease control approach, not a cure.
