Face transplants: a new frontier in reconstructive surgery
NCT ID NCT02818400
First seen May 22, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026
Summary
This study aims to see if face transplantation is surgically possible and how well the new face works. Five people with severe, unrepaired facial injuries will receive a face transplant. The study will measure if they can close their mouth, feel touch, and sense temperature, while also testing a bone marrow treatment to help the body accept the new face. Participants will need to take lifelong medication to prevent rejection.
