New study aims to predict rare eye surgery complication before it happens

NCT ID NCT07549438

First seen Apr 25, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study looks at 1,150 people with a type of glaucoma (primary angle-closure disease) who need a combined surgery to remove the cataract and open the eye's drainage system. The goal is to find out which patients are at risk for a rare but serious complication called ciliary block, where fluid builds up in the wrong part of the eye. Researchers will use standard eye imaging before surgery to measure eye structures and track patients for 12 months after surgery. The results will help surgeons take preventive steps to make the procedure safer.
