Eye doctors track hidden risk factor for serious vision complication

This study aimed to understand if a common eye condition called posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) affects the risk of a serious complication—retinal detachment—in nearsighted people after cataract or lens replacement surgery. Researchers followed 609 nearsighted patients for up to five years after their surgery, checking their eyes and conducting phone interviews to see who developed retinal detachment. The goal was to gather information to help doctors better predict and possibly prevent this complication in high-risk patients.
