Could a common pill be the missing piece for stubborn eye disease?
NCT ID NCT04504123
Summary
This study is testing if adding a low-dose oral antibiotic (doxycycline) helps patients with wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD) who still have fluid in their eye despite regular anti-VEGF injections. Fifty participants who are 'incomplete responders' to standard treatment will take either the study pill or a placebo daily for six months, alongside their usual eye injections. The goal is to see if the pill helps dry up the persistent fluid, improve vision stability, and potentially reduce the need for as many injections.
