Could simple exercises or relaxation be the key to easing period pain?
NCT ID NCT07771582
First seen Aug 18, 2026 · Last updated Aug 19, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether a 12-week program of exercises or relaxation techniques can reduce pain and improve quality of life in young women with primary dysmenorrhea (painful periods). Participants will be randomly assigned to an exercise group, a relaxation group, or a control group receiving no intervention. Researchers will measure pain severity, menstrual symptoms, and stress-related cortisol levels before and after the program.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- A structured exercise program (adductor stretching, bridging, sit-ups) and a relaxation program (yoga, meditation, relaxation postures)
- What this could lead to
- If effective, these drug-free approaches could offer simple, low-cost ways to reduce period pain and improve daily life for many women.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early trial with only 40 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Benefits may be modest, and adherence to 12 weeks of sessions could be challenging.
