Exercise molecule may shield seniors from Post-Surgery confusion

Summary
This observational study looks at how a protein called irisin, released during exercise, might protect the brain and lower the risk of postoperative delirium (confusion after surgery) in older adults. Researchers will enroll 140 people aged 65 and older who are having non-heart surgery with spinal anesthesia. They will measure irisin levels in spinal fluid and track delirium for five days after surgery to see if daily activity and irisin are linked to better brain recovery.
