Tiny study probes whether PPI drugs loosen stiff esophagus in EoE patients

NCT ID NCT03312686

First seen Nov 24, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This small pilot study is looking at whether treating inflammation in the esophagus with proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) can improve how well the esophagus stretches and moves. Ten people with eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) will have their esophagus flexibility measured before and after treatment, both in the upper and lower parts. The goal is to see if reducing inflammation helps the esophagus work better.
