New HIV cocktail aims to rescue patients with advanced disease

NCT ID NCT00302822

First seen Apr 11, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study tested whether adding an extra drug, enfuvirtide, to standard HIV therapy for 6 months could help severely ill patients recover their immune systems faster. It included 195 adults with HIV who had very low CD4 counts or a recent AIDS diagnosis and had never taken HIV drugs before. The goal was to see if more patients could reach a safe CD4 level after 24 weeks of treatment.
