Breath test may spot deadly lung clots early

NCT ID NCT07241130

First seen Nov 21, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study looked at whether measuring carbon dioxide in a person's breath (called EtCO₂) can help doctors quickly identify patients with severe pulmonary embolism (blood clots in the lungs) and monitor their response to treatment. Researchers observed 120 adults, including those with high-risk clots and healthy volunteers. The goal was to see if this simple, noninvasive test could replace more complex procedures for assessing disease severity.
