Can a diabetes drug boost dialysis efficiency for kidney patients?

NCT ID NCT05671991

First seen Jun 01, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study tests if empagliflozin, a diabetes drug, can reduce sugar absorption during peritoneal dialysis in 30 adults with end-stage kidney disease. Participants will receive either the drug or a placebo in a crossover design, followed by an 8-week open-label phase where everyone gets the drug. The goal is to see if it helps dialysis work better by lowering glucose uptake.
