New study: relax your jaw muscles to beat TMJ pain

NCT ID NCT07577687

First seen May 14, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether adding a special relaxation training (EMG-biofeedback) to a standard exercise program can better reduce pain and improve jaw movement in people with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. About 40 adults with TMJ pain for at least 3 months will be split into two groups: one gets exercises only, the other gets exercises plus the relaxation training. Researchers will measure pain, jaw range of motion, and daily function before and after 5 weeks of treatment.
