First seen Apr 15, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 6 times
Summary
This study tests whether electro-acupuncture (acupuncture with mild electric pulses) can reduce belly pain and improve bowel movements in people with irritable bowel syndrome and constipation (IBS-C). About 60 IBS-C patients will receive either real or sham (fake) acupuncture to see if the real treatment works better. The study also collects blood, urine, and stool samples to explore how acupuncture might affect gut bacteria. Healthy volunteers provide samples for comparison but do not receive any treatment.
