Could 'easy' cycling strengthen weak lungs and hearts?
NCT ID NCT06480656
First seen Jul 07, 2026 · Last updated Jul 08, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a special type of cycling—called eccentric cycling, which uses less effort but still builds muscle—can help people with pulmonary vascular disease (PVD) exercise more effectively. Participants will either do eccentric cycling or standard cycling as part of a rehabilitation program. The goal is to see if this approach improves exercise capacity and blood flow through the lungs.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Eccentric cycling exercise
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a more effective and less exhausting exercise option for people with pulmonary vascular disease, potentially improving their daily function and heart-lung health.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The exercise may not improve outcomes significantly, and some people may find it difficult to complete.
