Earplug trick may stop gagging during root canals
NCT ID NCT07493200
First seen Mar 28, 2026 · Last updated May 26, 2026 · Updated 13 times
Summary
This study tests whether wearing a custom silicone earplug during root canal treatment can reduce the gag reflex and stress in 40 adults with severe gagging. Half the participants will get an earplug, and the other half will not. Researchers will measure gag severity, discomfort, and stress levels using saliva tests. If it works, this simple, drug-free method could make dental visits much easier for people with a strong gag reflex.
