Early scope after colorectal surgery may spot leaks before they turn deadly

NCT ID NCT07588386

First seen May 18, 2026 · Last updated Jun 11, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study tests whether doing a colonoscopy 5 to 8 days after low colorectal cancer surgery can detect anastomotic leakage (a serious complication where the surgical connection leaks) earlier than standard monitoring. About 140 adults who had surgery for colorectal cancer will be randomly assigned to either an early colonoscopy or usual care. The goal is to see if early detection allows faster treatment, reduces the need for emergency reoperations, and improves recovery.
