Faster test could curb powerful antibiotic use in critically ill patients

NCT ID NCT07267624

Summary

This study aims to see if using a rapid, detailed lab test (multiplex PCR) on lung fluid samples can help doctors in intensive care units (ICUs) reduce the use of powerful, broad-spectrum antibiotics in patients with suspected ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). It will compare this new testing approach to standard diagnostic methods. The main goal is to see if patients spend fewer hours on these strong antibiotics in their first week, which is part of a broader effort to improve antibiotic stewardship and patient care.
